More Details

massage-therapyMassage Therapy is rubbing the soft tissues of the body, such as the muscles. Massage Therapy may be helpful in reducing tension and pain, improving blood flow, and encouraging relaxation. There are at least 80 different types of massage therapy . Some are gentle, and some are very active and intense.

For example, Swedish massage therapy is very gentle and is often used to promote relaxation, improve blood flow, and relieve muscle tension. The therapist uses long, gliding strokes and kneading and tapping techniques on the top layer of muscles in the direction of blood flow to the heart. This may also include moving the joints gently to improve range of motion.

Deep tissue massage therapy is more active and intense. It is used to treat long-lasting muscle tension. The therapist applies slow strokes (with the fingers, thumbs, and elbows) using intense pressure to reach deeper layers of the muscles than those reached with a Swedish massage technique.

Trigger point massage therapy is less gentle and can sometimes be uncomfortable. The therapist applies firm pressure to knots or tight, tense muscles that have been overused or injured, continuing until the muscles relax.

These types of therapeutic treatment helps to promote relaxation and relieve pain. It can also relieve muscle tension and may improve blood flow, relieve pressure on nerves, and restore normal joint movement.

General FAQs.

Why is massage therapy better than a massage chair or other at home massage device?

While an at home or chair massage can feel good and reduce muscle tension, these cannot compare to a licensed massage therapist. A massage therapist possesses the knowledge and expertise to identify which areas to target. They also can move around to reach areas of the body that would be difficult to reach yourself.

How does a massage therapy reduce stress and anxiety?

Massage Therapy can reduce cortisol levels by up to 50%. Cortisol is the hormone that the body produces when dealing with stressful situations. At the same time, massage therapy raises levels of dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin. These chemicals naturally stabilize your mood and lower stress. After massage therapy, the body is in a more relaxed state.

What should I do during a massage therapeutic treatment?

While your massage therapist works, the only thing you need to do is lay on the massage table in a comfortable position and relax. Your therapist will ask you to move or gently move you when necessary. Feel free to have a friendly chat with your massage therapist, ask questions about the treatment, or simply enjoy the quiet serenity.
